I have been a long-time fan of wallpaper as decor in almost any space. The selections are endless and inspiring. Do you feel that wallpaper is a trend that comes and goes with the seasons or would you say that wallpaper is a long lasting tradition? I would say that it is a bit of both.
Wallpaper has been around since as early as 200 BC when the Chinese glued rice paper to their walls. A machine for printing wallpaper was introduced in 1785 by a Frenchman. By the end of the 18th century, Philadelphia became the center of wallpaper production for the United States. In 1862, William Morris began making patterns for wallpaper that we still know today.
Today, wallpaper is seen is many different applications. It is used in the traditional sense of adorning walls in living spaces, but is also found applied to cabinetry, closets, and furniture. Wallpaper is used in both the traditional sense and in an artistic sense. It can be vibrant and stand out in a space or hidden in a room full of textiles and patterns.
Below are some examples I found while researching this blog. Enjoy the different styles and applications. Feel free to share any wallpaper ideas or trends you may have run across or designed yourself. I would love to see!
